Since its inception in 2018, the AWC has become a premier platform for writers, readers, publishers, and other creative to come together and celebrate African literature and culture. Previous conferences were held in Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania, Cameroon, and Ghana. Now, for the 7th edition, the conference will be hosted in Kigali, Rwanda from 22nd October, 2024. The attendees will have the opportunity to explore the vibrant literary scene and connect with like-minded individuals. This time around, the conference will feature guided tours, creative learning workshops, discussion panels, book exhibition, and meet and greet with award-winning authors, editors, and literary agents. The high point of the conference is the African Writers Awards ceremony, which recognises and celebrates the very best in African literature. Join us and discover the power of African storytelling!

The Writers Mingle is a 90-minute interactive session that precedes the African Writers Conference. The Conference Day of the African Writers Conference is a day of engaging sessions, including a keynote speech, panel discussions, presentations and entertainment. The conference culminates with the announcement of the winners of the African Writers Awards.

The picnic provides a peaceful environment for writers to find inspiration, jot down ideas, and immerse themselves in storytelling. Delicious food and beverages are provided, adding to the pleasant atmosphere. This activity promotes relaxation, camaraderie, and creative rejuvenation, enhancing the overall conference experience.

The Departure concludes the African Writers Conference in Accra. Participants reflect on their conference experiences and bid farewell to new friends and colleagues. The Departure marks the end of the physical gathering but symbolizes the beginning of a continued journey in African literature.
